I have a few character commissions I have been working on and so far I have rough sketches followed by some final sketches. Even when commissioned for a simple character piece, I tend to ask what their story is. Where I could have stopped with just the person, I tend to end up drawing/painting an entire background/atmosphere in addition. Perhaps I should practice some self restraint. Haha.
