Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker FanArt Process

I finished my Wind Waker fan art and it's definitely been a journey for me.  I started it out with Prismacolor Marker on the figures of Tetra and Zelda.  A few people have asked me to make a video showing my process for using Prismacolor markers, which I will absolutely get to in the future.  Until then, here's a bit of a process blog.  Hopefully you find it useful if you're trying to get into using Prismacolor Markers.

When using Prismacolor marker, I try not to use too much Clear Blender mainly to keep the colors vibrant.  If I blend, I will usually use the lightest color next to that color.

Ex: Let's say I started laying down shadow on the skin in Tuscan Red (which I did)

I wanted to create a little bit of an overall warm skin tone, so I went with Peach as my next second darkest color.  Once I layout where I want my Peach color to be, I will go over the Tuscan Red with Peach and blur the line between the two colors to create a smoother transition.  I continued this process leading all the way up to my lightest color (Brick Beige).

Once I finish my Prismacolor color aspects, sometimes I will use a white Uni-Ball Signo pen for hard highlights.

This is just my experience with using markers.  You may notice a little bit of a blue streaky texture going on in the background.  Before I laid down my marker work, I did a light blue wash of watercolors over the piece.  The two mediums usually work pretty well for me together.
For large backgrounds, I like to use watercolor to avoid the streaking of markers that can occur over large areas of paper.

I'd say most of the background here is watercolor, so keep that in mind.  You can always embellish your watercolors a bit with small details after your watercolors dry.

For those interested in my Prismacolor Marker color palettes, I have listed the combinations below from darkest color to lightest.

For tips on watercolors, definitely check YouTube.  It's been a great resource for me as someone that doesn't feel especially confident in her watercolor art.  I hope you've found this blog to be a helpful tool for you in your Prismacolor adventures.  Feel free to message me if you have any questions about this process or more.

Just a last diddle.  I did add the King of Red Lion and Link at the bottom in Prismacolor Marker as well.  Toodles for now. :)

Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac

As convention season approaches, I have been keeping busy with a few new pieces to sell at my table!  I'm almost done with this piece of Camus from Saint Seiya.  I know a few of my friends who will be pretty excited to see him done.

I have been getting back into using Prismacolor markers.  I didn't use any black ink to outline this one where I usually have dark pencil or black ink to create hard edges for my traditional Prismacolor illustrations.  This time I used a Prismacolor's blue erasable colored pencil and filled in the color with marker.  Something I've always loved about these markers is the bleed and blending capabilities.

Sailor Scouts & Zodiac Signs

I am currently working on the rest of my Sailor Scouts paired with Pokemon.  My favorite ones, so far are my Sailor Saturn with Cubone (My fav scout! ;D), and Sailor Moon in a space suit.

In addition, I've been working on my zodiac project.  Cancer the Crab's female side is almost done in the final sketch phase.  A crescent moon-like crown, shell fish fossils patterned about her leggings, crab legs wrapped around her robe and face.  I'm excited to start designing the male half.  I'll have art for Leo in no time!  I'm slowly having fun adding backgrounds to them.

Sailor Scouts & Pokemon

I have recently started doodling and dabbling in some crossover art between Sailor Moon characters with Pokemon.  Which Pokemon will they choose?  You might be surprised.

Spring Flowersona: Bleeding Heart

A bleeding heart flower-inspired outfit representing spring of the four seasons.  I drew the original line work in pencils.  I made an attempt at inking this piece, but it really didn't work out, so I used the scanned pencil work as my outline for the digital color work.  The final piece is 11" x 17".  I intend on creating floral-inspired outfits for the other three seasons of the year, so keep an eye out for more of these. :)

Progress: Character Art

I have a few character commissions I have been working on and so far I have rough sketches followed by some final sketches.  Even when commissioned for a simple character piece, I tend to ask what their story is.  Where I could have stopped with just the person, I tend to end up drawing/painting an entire background/atmosphere in addition.  Perhaps I should practice some self restraint.  Haha.
